ROSWELL—On Friday, Sept. 21, Blessed Trinity High School inducted its fourth group into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Jessica McAlvany, Amber Hamilton Cerone and Harris Howard. All three are members of the school’s class of 2008.
Jessica McAlvany had an outstanding volleyball career at Blessed Trinity as an outside hitter. She was a member of the team that won the school’s first state volleyball championship in 2006. During her career, she earned two All-State Honors, was a member of the state senior all-star team and was the State Player of the Year in 2006.
McAlvany played volleyball at Emory University, Atlanta, where she amassed 1,105 kills, which puts her in 11th place on the school’s all-time list. She also helped lead Emory to the NCAA Division III National Volleyball Championship game in 2010.
McAlvany works for Casa de la Cultura de Sabaneta in Medellin, Colombia.
Hamilton Cerone was a four-year starter on the softball team. She was part of a team that made two Elite Eight appearances, played in two region championships and triumphed in the school’s first and only softball state championship in 2007.
Hamilton Cerone was named Most Valuable Player all four years. She earned three All-State Honors, was named Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) Pitcher of the Year, North Fulton Most Valuable Player, Northside Pitcher of the Year and Northside Player of the Year. She was also selected to play in the GACA All-Star game. Hamilton Cerone still holds the school record for earned run average (ERA), wins in a single season, innings pitched and strikeouts. She also a played basketball every year of high school.
After graduation, Hamilton Cerone played softball at the University of South Carolina Upstate. She currently teaches at Holy Redeemer School, Johns Creek, and serves as an assistant coach for Blessed Trinity’s varsity softball team. Hamilton Cerone and her husband, Tyler (class of 2008), were married earlier this year.
Harris Howard was a three-sport athlete at Blessed Trinity. He played offensive tackle on the 2005 region championship football team and was named to the All-Area team his sophomore, junior and senior years. In his senior year, Howard was the school’s first player to ever be invited to play in the GACA All-Star game. He was also a member of the wrestling team. He was a two-time Area Champion and finished fourth in the state his senior year. On the track team, Howard set a record, that still stands today, for the shot put.
Following his high school career, Howard played football for Tulane University, New Orleans, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line. In 2011 he was named to Conference USA’s All-Conference Team.
After earning a bachelor and master of science degree in environmental biology at Tulane, Howard went on to receive a law degree from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. He currently works as an associate at King and Spalding LLP. He and his wife, Kacy, reside in Atlanta.
