Architectural tours of Conyers monastery offered through October

Published July 6, 2017

CONYERS—See the beauty and history of the Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Monastery in Conyers during the monthly Highlights and Insights Tour, sponsored by the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance.

Tour dates are Saturdays on July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 16 and Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. The monastery is located at 2625 Highway 212, SW, in Conyers.

Docents will guide visitors on a journey through a place filled with purpose as visitors discover the place where Trappist monks live, work and pray in a community cloistered from the outside world.

The two-hour tour begins near the entrance to the Abbey Store. Participants will gain insight into the Abbey Church architecture and construction and view the handcrafted stained glass. The group will be joined by a monk to visit spaces normally closed to the public.

The cost of the tour is $12 for participants ages 13 and older. Admission is free for children 12 and younger.

The Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance is a group of volunteers and staff who work to promote and preserve the natural, scenic, cultural and historic resources within the heritage area. The heritage area lies just east of Atlanta along I-20.

Pre-registration for the Highlights and Insights Tour is required, and tickets may be purchased at http://monasterytours.brownpapertickets.com.
