Holy Cross Church in Atlanta will hold a parish mission with the theme “Called to Discipleship” on Sunday through Wednesday, March 7-10 with Father Richard Parks, CP.

The sessions will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night and will run around 35 minutes.

On Sunday evening, Father Parks will speak on “Love and Commitment.” The topic for Monday will be “Mercy and Reconciliation.” On Tuesday he will present a “Disciple Growth Plan,” and on Wednesday he will discuss “Discipleship and the Parish Family.”

In addition he will preside at morning Mass at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He will also preach then, and talks will be different than those given in the evenings.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to come and hear his message of love and hope. The parish mission presents a special opportunity for the unchurched, non-Catholics and those who don’t attend Mass regularly to come and hear a positive message.

Father Parks is a native of Flint, Mich. He is a member of the Passionist Community of priests and brothers. He presently serves as the local superior of the King Retreat Center in Sacramento, Calif. He entered the Congregation of the Passion in 1963 and was ordained in 1970. He earned both his bachelor of philosophy degree in 1966 and his master of divinity degree in 1970 from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He also holds a master of psychology degree from the University of San Francisco.

Father Parks was a pastor for eight years. He has been giving parish missions for the past 20 years throughout the United States and Canada. He has ministered in retreat centers in St. Louis, Houston and Sacramento. His experience includes individual spiritual direction and marriage counseling over many years. He brings an inspirational and dynamic style to his proclamation of God’s word.
