Spring Hill College, a Jesuit college located in Mobile, Ala., has expanded its presence in Atlanta by offering accelerated undergraduate and advanced degrees for working adults.

Since 1997, Spring Hill has offered degrees in theology at Holy Spirit Church in Atlanta. The success of this program prompted the college to expand the range of degrees it offers. In October, the school initiated programs in education and Christian spirituality. Starting in January, the college will open its new facility in south Gwinnett County, where it will offer varying degree programs at the master’s and undergraduate levels. Dr. Suzanne Erickson, executive director of Spring Hill College’s Atlanta branch, said, “Our goal is to become the educational resource for the growing Catholic community in the Atlanta area.”

In addition to Spring Hill’s accelerated program, the college also offers a non-degree program in Christian spirituality. The Certificate of Christian Spirituality is intended for adults seeking to deepen their understanding and experience of spirituality in their everyday lives, as well as their chosen professions. Currently offered at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, a second series begins in January and will focus on spirituality and psychology, spirituality and vocation, and prayer and discernment.

The program examines the importance of making life choices based on a discernment of one’s vocation, studies the theology of prayer, explores the various types of prayer available and considers the importance of prayer in human life and development. Parishes are invited and encouraged to host or attend classes in Gwinnett.

Courses in the certificate program are available for graduate credit or on an audit basis and are open to anyone interested.

With the main campus located in Mobile, Ala., Spring Hill College is the oldest college in Alabama and the third oldest Jesuit college in the country. The college welcomes students of all faiths to experience what the Jesuits call “Cura Personalis,” or concern for the whole person.
