The Atlanta chapter of the Magnificat ministry to Catholic women will hold a breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 13, at which Rebecca Conaty, a member of the Magnificat advisory board and Eastern regional representative, will be the speaker.

Her story of God’s mercy and her conversion to his will, rather than her own, is one of twists and turns, stops and starts. Her story encompasses the loss of a child, the pain of divorce, the struggle and joy of the annulment process, and the steps through which the Lord healed and enriched her marriage. Through a series of trials, God taught her about the power of praise and thanksgiving, resulting in her cheerful outlook in the midst of difficulty. She enthusiastically shares her message of God’s mercy and love and provides another glimpse of the wonder of God’s activity in one woman’s life.

Conaty lives in Vienna, Va., with her husband, Chuck, and their teenage daughter, Caitlin, the youngest of their five children. She is the assistant to the headmaster and the registrar of a private all-boys Catholic school in Potomac, Md. As a member of the Magnificat board, she works with both existing Magnificat chapters and chapters in formation from the mid-Atlantic region to Wisconsin.

The breakfast will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Killian Hall, 908 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn. Tickets at $10 apiece are available by mail through Aug. 6. Seating is limited and no tickets are available at the door.

Formed in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, with chapters in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and abroad, the Magnificat ministry brings women together in an atmosphere of praise and gratitude to God. After each Magnificat meal, there is a time of prayer for the needs of all present and an opportunity to hear one woman’s experience of the transforming love of God in her own life. The Magnificat includes a music ministry and is followed by the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.

The Joyful Visitation Chapter in Atlanta is guided by a service committee coordinated by Susie Goodrow of St. John Neumann Church, Lilburn, with the assistance of spiritual advisor Father Joseph Mullakkara, MSFS.

Tickets for priests and Religious are complimentary, but reservations are still requested for meal planning. Since the Magnificat is designed to speak to the hearts of women free of distractions it is respectfully requested that young children not be in attendance.

Those who have never attended a Magnificat breakfast before are encouraged to come and experience this sharing of spiritual friendship modeled upon the example of Mary and Elizabeth in St. Luke’s Gospel.
