A fall season of classical choral music will continue at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit on Sunday, Nov. 12, with a program by the Atlanta Schola Cantorum at 3:30 p.m. entitled “Hymns to the Virgin.”

Founded in 1974, the group is the area’s oldest independent chorus. The core of the group’s repertory is the polyphonic sacred music of the Renaissance. The program will include 16th-century and 20th-century works by Josquin des Pres, William Byrd, Antoine Brumel, Benjamin Britten, Herbert Howells and Martin Lauridsen. Featured works include the motet “Ave Maria, Virgo Serena” by Josquin des Pres and the tender two-choir “Hymn to the Virgin” by Benjamin Britten.

The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Donations will be accepted in support of the monastic community. A reception follows the concert.

A Christmas concert with the Atlanta Boy Choir will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. Hailed as one of the world’s finest boy choirs, the Atlanta Boy Choir, directed by David R. White, was founded in 1957 and has performed in many of the world’s great cathedrals and concert halls across North America and Europe.

The choir will present its annual “Christmas with the Atlanta Boy Choir” concert at the monastery—a local tradition for the past 27 years. The mainstay of this year’s concert will include selections from the beautiful Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach. The choir will also sing many of their favorite traditional carols and songs of the season, and there will be an opportunity for the audience to sing along. A reception will follow the concert.

Tickets for the Christmas concert are $25 for adults and $12 for children 15 and younger. There is open seating.
