A Kennesaw-Acworth based chapter of Little Flowers and the Blue Knights, a Catholic homeschool club, will be sponsoring a multi-family, multi-church yard sale Oct. 6-7 in King’s Row subdivision to raise money for orphans in Bucharest, Romania.

Proceeds from the yard sale will be used to repair a building for Romanian children, ages 5 and up, who live on the streets and in the drains and beg for food.

Barbara Small, a parent leader for the club, explained how overwhelmed she felt when John Breen came from Romania to speak at her church, St. Catherine of Siena, about the desperate needs of these children.

“I felt that this was something we needed to support and saw it as an opportunity for the Little Flowers and Blue Knights to put their faith and learning to action,” she said. When she approached the other parents and the children in the club with the project, they were ready to help.

The Little Flowers and Blue Knight’s club includes children between the ages of 6 and 12 who meet monthly to learn about and work into their lives character-building virtues such as truthfulness, responsibility and generosity as embodied in the lives of saints.

The children in Little Flowers and Blue Knights participate in several service projects during the year to serve the needs of others including helping MUST Ministries and visiting nursing homes. After learning that about 70 children in Bucharest die each winter because of the cold and the rats that often attack the children, the group decided to help meet the needs of the orphans for a safe and warm place to live. Upon completion of the repairs, the building will house about 150 orphans.
