The Georgia Federal Credit Union (GFCU) recently awarded a $1,000 grant to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through its Catholic Community Charitable Giving Fund (CCCGF). The fund was established following the merger of Greater Atlanta Catholic Federal Credit Union with Georgia Federal Credit Union and is managed by committee members of the Catholic Advisory Board.

The Renaissance Program of the St. Vincent de Paul Council Office was selected for its contribution to providing financial assistance to legal immigrants who are highly skilled or educated in their selected professions to become recertified to assume the same professions in the United States. By helping these immigrants escape the effects of being under-employed, the bonds of intergenerational poverty are broken, which enriches the lives of the individual, their families, and the entire community.

According to Msgr. Stephen Churchwell, chairman of the Catholic Advisory Board, “We are pleased to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s efforts to fight poverty through advanced educational opportunities for immigrants.”
