An undermanned Our Lady of Mercy High School football team played with a lot of determination and heart despite a 28-0 loss to Eagles Landing Christian Academy (ELCA) of McDonough Sept. 26. Mercy managed to hold ELCA scoreless until the last two minutes of the second quarter when ELCA running back Van Jakes took it in from two yards out for the only first half touchdown. ELCA scored its remaining 21 points in the fourth quarter. Mercy generated 237 yards of total offense, 121 on the ground and 116 in the air, and its defense intercepted two passes and recovered two fumbles in the game’s first half, but they were unable to convert the turnovers to points. Mercy senior running back Jarrell Bankhead led his team in receiving and rushing with 91 and 109 yards, respectively. Mercy (1-3) travels to Roswell to play Fellowship Christian School (2-3) Friday, Oct. 3.
Blessed Trinity High School, Roswell, extended its winning streak to four as the team routed Avondale High School 62-13 Sept. 26. The team is averaging 43.5 points per game this season, and no opponent has scored more than 15 points on its defense.
