Marist School and St. Pius X High School were simultaneously eliminated from the state football playoffs on Friday, Nov. 19. Marist held a 28-14 lead at halftime over Chattahoochee High School, Marietta, but Chattahoochee stormed back to win 31-28. It almost looked like the teams switched playing styles in the second half. Chattahoochee scored two touchdowns and a field goal, and the defense held Marist scoreless. With the win Chattahoochee (12-0) advances to the state Class AAAA quarterfinals. Marist finished the 2010 season at 9-3.
In the other game, Carrollton High School (12-0) downed St. Pius X High School 14-7. Pius’ only score came on an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trey White to senior receiver Alex Avant. The Pius defense stood up to a Carrollton offense that had averaged nearly 50 points per game, but Carrollton’s 199 yards rushing and 55 yards passing were all they needed in the end to get by Pius. St. Pius also ended its season at 9-3.
