St. Peter Chanel Knights sponsor third annual 5K

Published November 4, 2016

ROSWELL—The Knights of Columbus of St. Peter Chanel Church, Council 13217, are holding a 5K chip-timed run/walk event on Saturday, Nov. 19. The event, the third annual 5K event hosted at the parish, will raise funds for Special Olympics Georgia and other special needs charities of the St. Peter Chanel Knights.

Last year’s 5K event raised over $22,000 for charity and was attended by over 500 participants. Organizers are asking for the continued support of Atlanta metro residents to help make the event a growing success.

The Nov. 19 event is open to all persons who wish to participate as either runners or walkers, advanced, intermediate or casual. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. that day with onsite check-in beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Those interested in participating can register online in advance at the 5K event website at: www.spc5K.org.

John McCarty, Grand Knight of Council 13217, said, “We are excited to be promoting a fundraising event for Special Olympics Georgia and the Knights of Columbus charities. We believe that hosting a 5K event fits well with the spirit of Special Olympics and our desire to support charitable activities in our community.”

This event is also using the latest in crowdfunding technologies to develop donations for the charities supported by the event. The event website—www.spc5K.org—presents sponsor ads and rewards to promote the event and to stimulate donations to the charities.
