Life Chain: Prayers and a silent witness for life

Published September 23, 2016

ATLANTA—Life Chain is a prayer chain and silent public witness for life and against abortion. While Life Chain is held in October, which is Respect Life Month in the Catholic Church, the witness is a non-denominational event. In its 29th year, Life Chain is held throughout the United States and Canada on the first Sunday in October.

Participants spend an hour to 90 minutes in silence, holding a sign speaking of the dignity of every life, on a thoroughfare where passersby can see this witness. Those who participate are asked to pray while they stand for pro-life intentions, particularly for the unborn at-risk children in their local area and for an end to abortion.

The prepared signs include the messages: Abortion kills children; Abortion hurts women; Adoption, the loving option; Life, the first inalienable right; and Pregnant? Need Help?, with a free national crisis pregnancy hotline number.
