Top academic honorees named at Catholic high schools

ATLANTA—Honors are awarded as graduation ceremonies for the seven Catholic high schools within the Atlanta Archdiocese, including independent and archdiocesan Catholic schools, take place at the end of May.

The students honored at these schools as valedictorians and salutatorians of the Class of 2016 are listed.

 

Blessed Trinity High School

Leann Kopp was the valedictorian of the Class of 2016 at Blessed Trinity High School, Roswell. She is the daughter of Michael and Rita Kopp and the family attends St. Joseph Church, Marietta. Kopp, a National Merit Scholarship finalist, will enroll at Auburn University. Robert Gipson, the son of Deanne Gipson, was named the salutatorian of the class. He will attend the University of Notre Dame. The Gipsons are members of St. Brigid Church, Johns Creek. Graduation was celebrated on Saturday, May 21.

 

Holy Spirit Prep School

Lauren Bohling

Lauren Bohling is the valedictorian of the Class of 2016 at Holy Spirit Prep School, Atlanta. She is the daughter of Jeff and Jackie Bohling and the family attends Holy Spirit Church. Bohling will attend Georgia Tech in the Scheller College of Business. She was a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

Sarah Verlander

Sarah Verlander

The class salutatorian is Sarah Verlander, the daughter of Steven and Susan Verlander. The family attends the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta. Verlander will enroll at Georgia Tech, where she will study biology. The baccalaureate Mass and graduation will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 31.

 

Marist School

Nick Isaf

At Marist School, Atlanta, Nick Isaf, the son of Louis and Robin Isaf, was valedictorian of the Class of 2016. He will be attending Georgia Tech in the fall. The family worships at St. Joseph Maronite Catholic Church in Atlanta.

Courtney Peters

Courtney Peters

Two students were recognized as salutatorians. Courtney Peters, the daughter of Brian and Janet Peters, will attend the University of Virginia. She was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

Christian McKittrick

Christian McKittrick

Christian McKittrick, the son of Paul and Lynn McKittrick, will enter the U.S. Naval Academy. Both McKittrick and Peters are members of Holy Spirit Church, Atlanta. Graduation was celebrated on Saturday, May 21.

 

 

 

Monsignor Donovan High School

The two top students academically at Monsignor Donovan High School, Athens, are valedictorian Rachel Krunkosky and salutatorian Carl Terns. Krunkosky, the daughter of Tom and Jenifer Krunkosky, will be attending the University of Georgia. Terns, the son of Michael and Rebecca Terns, will enroll at Georgia Tech. Both families attend St. Joseph Church, Athens. Graduation was celebrated on Saturday, May 21.

 

Our Lady of Mercy High School

Anna Wilczynski

Anna Wilczynski was honored as the valedictorian at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fayetteville. Wilczynski, the daughter of Steven and Kristin Wilczynski, will attend Marquette University. The family attends St. John the Evangelist Church, Hapeville.

Sabrina Gaitan

Sabrina Gaitan

The two salutatorians were Sabrina Gaitan, the daughter of Mario and Clara Gaitan, and Naomi Watson, the daughter of Colin and Graciela Watson.

Naomi Watson

Naomi Watson

Gaitan will attend the University of Notre Dame and worships at Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City. Watson will enroll at Vanderbilt University. Graduation was celebrated on Saturday, May 21.

 

Pinecrest Academy

Drew Bryant

Pinecrest Academy’s Girls Upper School awarded a shared valedictorian honor. Drew Bryant, the daughter of Mark and Francesca Bryant, will be attending Emory University. They are members of St. Brendan the Navigator Church, Cumming.

Madeleine Brabrook

Madeleine Brabrook

Madeleine Brabrook, the daughter of David and Kelly Brabrook, will attend Georgia Tech. The Brabrooks are members of St. Brendan the Navigator Church, Cumming.

Garrett Witt

Garrett Witt

The top academic student at the Boys Upper School was Garrett Witt, the son of Jason and Ann Witt, who will be attending Georgia Tech. The Witt family attends St. Michael’s Church, Roswell.

Logan Stafford was the salutatorian. He is the son of Mark and Shelly Stafford and will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Staffords attend St. Brendan the Navigator Church, Cumming. Bryant and Witt both were named National Merit Scholarship finalists. Graduation at Pinecrest Academy, Cumming, will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28.

 

St. Pius X High School

St. Pius X High School, Atlanta, Class of 2016 recognized Edward “Joey” Jackson as its valedictorian. Jackson is the son of Cody and Diane Jackson. A National Merit Scholarship finalist, he will attend Georgia Tech. Anna Jones was recognized as the salutatorian. She is the daughter of Patrick and Kathleen Jones. She will be attending Davidson College. The families of the valedictorian and salutatorian are members of St. Thomas More Church, Decatur. Graduation was celebrated on Saturday, May 21.
