Trappist Brother Ken Sullivan, 85, dies

CONYERS—Brother Kenneth (Ken) Sullivan, 85, monk of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, died peacefully in the monastery’s infirmary on Monday, Dec. 2.

The celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Dec. 6, in the Abbey church.

Brother Ken was born in February 1928 in Newport, R. I., the son of Daniel and Margaret (Shea) Sullivan.

He is an alumnus of De La Salle Academy in Newport and Portsmouth Abbey. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1953 and served as a specialist 3rd class and chaplain’s assistant. Brother Ken entered Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Monastery in 1969 and made his solemn monastic vows in 1975. He served the monastic community as store manager for 17 years and managed the monastery’s incoming and outgoing mail for many years. Brother Ken had been in monastic vows for 44 years when the Lord called him.

He is survived by his brother, Daniel (Carolyn), of Little Compton, R.I.; his sister, Therese Croteau, of Newport, R.I.; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Sullivan, of Portland, Me. Brother Ken was preceded in death by his brother Vincent.
