The 2013 St. Cecilia Award for Outstanding Young Chorister was awarded to Katie Mettille, daughter of Cathy Mettille of Duluth. Katie is a member of the children’s choir, led by Linda Morgan, at Mary Our Queen Church, Norcross. Katie attends Duluth Middle School.

The award is given annually to a singer in the children’s choir who has shown leadership qualities, has been a good role model for the rest of the choir and who has excellent singing abilities. “Katie certainly possesses all of those qualities and more. It was an honor and a pleasure to have her in the choir,” said Morgan.

Katie was very excited to have been chosen by Morgan. When asked how she prepared, Katie said she sang her best for every song. “You need to try your best, no matter if it’s at practice, at Mass, or at a concert.” Katie truly enjoys being part of the choir. “Singing is so much fun for me! I came in every day with a smile knowing that I would get to sing that day with everyone I grew up to know. It is so much fun there with Mrs. Morgan. She has taught me to truly love singing!”
