For 2013 education tax credit, act quickly

Published April 25, 2013

Grace Scholars’ leaders are encouraging Catholic taxpayers to contribute to the student scholarship organization that aids Georgia Catholic school students.

David Brown, the executive director of Grace Scholars, reported that as of April 7, 56 percent of the education tax credit available statewide has already been approved for 2013.

Some $52.4 million is available for the tax credit in Georgia this year. But it is going fast.

Brown is urging people to apply to secure a 2013 tax credit. People have 60 days to complete the donation once they are approved for the tax credit, he said.

Last year, some $3.4 million was given to Grace Scholars through the education tax credit, said Brown. The funds provide tuition aid to students in Catholic schools of the Atlanta Archdiocese and the Savannah Diocese. Donors, who can be individuals or corporations, receive a 100 percent credit on their state taxes up to a limit set by their filing status.
