ATLANTA—Tommy Marshall, Marist School athletic director, was one of nine recipients of the 2012 Distinguished Service Award. The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) presents the award annually to selected members of the association in recognition of their length of service, special accomplishments and contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels. Nominations are submitted by state athletic director associations, screened by the NIAAA Awards Committee, and selected by the NIAAA board of directors.
Marshall has been the athletic director at Marist School since 1996, where he has been instrumental in building and bringing renown to the athletic program. In 2005 Sports Illustrated magazine named Marist School the number 15 high school athletic program in the nation.
Marshall is a past president of the Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) and has been selected as GADA Region Athletic Director of the Year seven times, most recently in 2011, and GADA State Athletic Director of the Year in 2002 and 2007.
