The Cathedral of Christ the King will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, at the noon Mass on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory will preside at the Mass and Cathedral pastor Father Frank McNamee will concelebrate the Mass. The public is invited.

A remembrance ceremony will be held before the liturgy with participation by a Junior ROTC color guard, the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Atlanta Police Department and Cathedral parishioner, and the chaplain of the Atlanta Fire Department. Members of the military will serve as giftbearers at Mass.

St. Peter Chanel Church, 11330 Woodstock Road, Roswell, will remember the anniversary with a memorial concert to be performed on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. A love offering will be collected for the Georgia Firefighters’ Burn Foundation. The public is invited.

Various other memorials will be held by parishes throughout the archdiocese, including St. James the Apostle Church, McDonough, Holy Spirit Church, Atlanta, and St. Mary Magdalene Church, Newnan, among others.

A candlelight memorial service will take place at St. James the Apostle parish on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. Attendees will gather at the statue of the Blessed Mother near the church pavilion. St. Brendan Church in Cumming will have an “Evening Prayer of Remembrance and Peace” on Sunday, Sept. 11, beginning at 8 p.m.

Holy Spirit Church will observe the anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a special Mass on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 p.m. All branches of first responders and the military will be in attendance, as well as an Honor Guard provided by the Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society (MAPES). A reception will follow in McDonough Hall. All are cordially invited. First Responders and Military Personnel are invited to dress in uniform for the Mass.

St. Michael the Archangel will hold a commemoration ceremony on Sunday, September 11, at 10:30 a.m. Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts and available police officers, firefighter and military members will participate in the ceremony.

Four ecumenical events will also be held. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., an ecumenical evening of prayer will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Alpharetta. All are welcome to attend the prayer service as well as the reception to follow.

The World Day of Prayer for Peace, commemorating September 11, will feature an ecumenical prayer service at St. Mary Magdalene Church at 3 p.m. The prayer service for peace will be celebrated with the faith community and neighbors from Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church, led by Father Dan Fleming of St. Mary Magdalene, Senior Pastor John Hagen of CCUMC and Pastor Mark Jordan of CCUMC. All are invited to attend.

The Vets Helping Vets Ministry of St. Ann Church is co-sponsoring an ecumenical event at East Cobb Park on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. The event includes a community picnic, a remembrance ceremony and a memorial dedication. The Vets Ministry will be collecting donations of items that can be used in care packages for the American troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

An Interfaith Prayer Gathering, sponsored by the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta, will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Decatur. The gathering is free and open to all.

The interfaith gathering planning committee includes Atlantans from a variety of faith expressions, including Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews and Muslims. The event will remember those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, but will also focus on the building of relationships between faith communities and across lines that have been dividing in the past.
