CTK Memorial Celebration To Honor Late Pope

Published September 29, 2011

A memorial celebration will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta, on Friday to Saturday, Oct. 21-22, to honor Blessed John Paul II. All are invited to attend.

The celebration has been planned as part of Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory’s response to a Vatican decree honoring the devotion to Blessed John Paul II in the Atlanta Archdiocese.

On Friday, Oct. 21, the celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Luis R. Zarama.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Cathedral of Christ the King’s Kenny Hall, internationally renowned actor Jeremy Stanbary will perform his popularly acclaimed one-man drama, “Lolek”, an inspirational live theater production about the young adulthood of Karol Wojtyla growing up in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II.

The drama, which is set to begin at 7 p.m., brings to life the experiences and events that formed the man that the world came to know as Pope John Paul II, highlighting the fascinating and tragic circumstances that helped form and influence Pope John Paul II’s spiritual life.

Stanbary, an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, has performed “Lolek” and other plays on Eternal World Television Network and at World Youth Days. He is also the founder and director of Epiphany Studio Productions and the Open Window Theatre in Minneapolis.

Tickets are on sale now and after all Cathedral weekend Masses. Cost is $20 for adults, and $10 for students ages 12-17. Adult tickets purchased by Oct. 10 will include a complimentary book of Blessed John Paul II’s writings.
