St. Pius Falls To Allatoona In Baseball Playoffs

In the first round of the Class AAA state baseball playoffs, St. Pius X High School defeated Allatoona High School, Acworth, 3-1 in game one of its best-of-three series, May 6.
Pius held a one-run lead in the beginning of the fifth inning, but Allatoona tied the game on an RBI single by left fielder Austin Rogers. Pius regained the lead during its next at bat when Aaron Avant led off with a base hit. After stealing second base, Avant scored from second when his brother Alex got a base hit.
In the sixth inning, a hit by Pius’ Jamison Porter and an errant throw allowed him to get to second for an extra base. When the next batter, Jack Spear, also got a hit, that allowed the eventual winning run to cross home plate.
In the second game of the series Allatoona redeemed itself with a 14-4 victory. In the third and deciding game the following day, May 7, Pius lost to Allatoona 9-5, which eliminated Pius from the playoffs.
Pius finished the season with a region record of 11-4 and an overall record of 15-13.
