Marist, Mercy Compete In Track And Field

Marist School hosted a track and field meet at its stadium on March 23. Joining the Marist athletes were Chapel Hill High School, Douglasville, Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fayetteville, and Paideia School, Atlanta. In the team standings, Chapel Hill finished first, followed by Marist and then Our Lady of Mercy.

In the individual girls track events, Marist School’s Margaret Miller finished first in the 100-meter dash and the 800-meter run. Mercy athletes Nicole Gagnier finished first in the 1600-meter run and Andrea Raville finished first in the 3200-meter run.

On the boys’ side, Mercy’s Pierce Vincent and Jordan Sartor finished first and second, respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Marist School’s Myles Willis finished third. In the 200-meter run, Sartor finished first, Marist School’s Jordan Snellings finished second and Vincent finished third. Snellings also placed first in the 400-meter run. In the 800-meter run, Marist senior Matthew Weber placed first. Ricky Nelson of Marist won the race in the 300-meter hurdles.

Chapel Hill High School took first place in all the relay races (4 x 100 and 4 x 400) for boys and girls.

In field events for girls, Marist School’s Jensen Caster placed first in the long jump (13 feet, 7 inches) and Mercy’s Tynese St. Cyr took second place (13 feet). Caster also finished third in the triple jump. Emily DeMaio of Marist finished second in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet.

In the field events for boys, Our Lady of Mercy senior Courtney Prevost reached a height of 5 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump. Marist School’s Dan Burke (5 feet, 8 inches) and Kevin Long (5 feet, 6 inches) finished second and third, respectively. Marist School’s Nathan Daniel, Daniel Arias and Patrick Eyre took first through third in the pole vault. Daniel took first place with a height of 13 feet, 6 inches. Christian Antos of Marist finished first in the discus throw.

Our Lady of Mercy will host a meet of area schools on April 14. Marist School will participate in the Westminster Quad on April 6.
