Faith Of Young Mother Focus Of May Magnificat

Published April 15, 2010

Julie Goodrow, 32, wife and mother of three young children, will be the speaker on Saturday, May 15, at the Magnificat breakfast for women.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, the speaker will talk about her journey in faith, which led her to become a Catholic in college and then helped her and her husband to survive nearly losing their first child, to embrace the struggles of that child living with cystic fibrosis, and to follow the path leading to adopting two more wonderful children.

She will speak of how she has experienced God’s help and guidance in marriage and daily family life. Her Scripture is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

All women are invited to the Magnificat breakfast, which is held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Killian Hall, 908 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn. A worldwide ministry to women, Magnificat is a private association within the Catholic Church that began in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and has local chapters.

“The morning is inspired by and modeled on that most remarkable greeting between two souls, Mary and Elizabeth,” said Beth Gowasack, coordinator of the Atlanta Joyful Visitation Chapter of Magnificat.

All the women who volunteer to make the Magnificat meal possible “want you to find in these few hours … a deeper love for Jesus, a new awareness of the love and powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother, and a keener sense of the Holy Spirit who moves and inspires us in our search for holiness,” she said.

The morning includes a music ministry, a time of prayer, the breakfast, the speaker’s talk on the transforming love of Christ in her own life, and a time of friendship and fellowship with other women. Doors open 30 minutes before the breakfast. After the meal there is an opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation or individual prayer.

Reservations must be made in advance. The cost is $10 per person. In order to reserve a place, please send a reservation request with name, address, parish, contact information and check payable to Magnificat Joyful Visitation to Kathy Timony, 6170 Rachel Ridge, Norcross, GA 30092. Requests must be postmarked by May 5 and received by May 8. Check-in will be at the door for those with reservations only. No new reservations are taken at the door.

Priests and religious are invited as guests of Magnificat, but reservations are still requested to plan the breakfast.

Since the day is designed to speak to the hearts of women free of distractions, it is respectfully requested that young children not be in attendance. Carpooling is encouraged.
