St. Peter Claver Defends Catholic League Title
Published March 18, 2010
The St. Peter Claver team defeated the St. Brigid parish team 55-28 to capture the Catholic Metro League of Atlanta (CMLA) basketball championship Feb. 18. The regional Catholic school team finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record.
Head coach Al Lockett said, “These students have always worked hard and played hard, and they truly deserve to win.”
It was Lockett’s sixth championship in seven seasons of coaching.
During the entire regular season, team members wore pink bracelets on their ankles as the coaches wore them on their wrists, and the championship game was no exception. Both players and coaches know of individuals suffering with breast cancer, and the bracelets were a means of bringing attention to the need for finding a cure.
