Poetry Recital Will Honor Priests, Priest-Poets

In honor of the Year for Priests, St. Pius X Church will be having a Poetry Recital with selections written by priest poets or about the priesthood. The recital with wine and cheese refreshments will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6. The public is invited.

Poems will be recited by members of the parish who serve as lectors and also by members of the clergy. The recital will be held in the church hall at 2621 Highway 20, SE, Conyers. Recitations will include poems by John Donne, John Milton, Francis Thompson, Caryll Houselander, Pope John Paul II, Benedictine monk Father Kilian McDonnell and Trappist monk Father Anthony DeLisi, among others.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the recital will begin at 7 p.m. There will be an opening invocation, a 10-minute intermission, and a closing singing of two poems of the liturgy: the Litany of the Saints and Psalm 23. All are welcome to come. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted. Refreshments will also include coffee and tea.

Pope Benedict XVI declared the year from June 2009 through June 2010 as the Year for Priests.
