‘Pray Date With Jesus’ For Kids

Published June 18, 2009

St. Brigid Church hosts a monthly adoration hour for families and children of all ages this summer. “Pray Date with Jesus” will focus on learning more about the lives of the saints whose statues are in the church and on becoming a “summer saint.” Adoration will take place in the church sanctuary and will include a variety of silent worship forms, music, prayers and a blessing for each child.

It will be held every first Tuesday from 3:16 to 4 p.m. Dates are July 7, Aug. 4 and Sept. 1.

Now in its second year, the group currently draws about 25 children and 10 parents. Planners hope to expand the program to other parishes. The children’s adoration hour began under parishioner Janice Givens in November 2007.

Givens said the purpose is to help young children experience God.

“We hope to teach the children to evangelize, to give and to pray. It is not an hour of silence for the children. They participate in songs and are encouraged to talk about how Jesus speaks to them during adoration,” she said.

The children offer special intentions and also take part in leading songs and discussions. They have begun to pray for other ministries within the parish. At the end of adoration, the children line the aisle and Deacon Leo Gahafer individually blesses each one. The adoration time ends with children receiving candy to share with others offering messages about God.

All families are invited. The church is located at 3400 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek. Contact Kathleen at kath22@mindspring.com or Janice Givens at richandjanice@bellsouth.net for information.
