Holy Redeemer School kicked off a year-long commemoration of the school’s 10th anniversary with a Mass celebrated by the archdiocesan vicar general, Msgr. Joseph Corbett, on Friday, Sept. 5. The Mass was concelebrated by Msgr. Paul Reynolds, pastor of nearby St. Brigid Church, and the two priests were assisted by Deacon Leo Gahafer.

As a school community every faculty member and student received a commemorative red shirt, which will be worn every Wednesday throughout the school year.

After Mass the students and teachers enjoyed a special lunch followed by an afternoon of fun on the school field. Activities were offered for all ages, including a faculty vs. eighth-grade volleyball game.

Holy Redeemer School opened its doors on Sept. 7, 1999, one of three Catholic elementary schools opening that year, including Queen of Angels School in Roswell and Our Lady of Victory in Tyrone, as a result of the “Building the Church of Tomorrow” capital campaign held in the archdiocese in 1997.

The school has planned a number of events in celebration including the annual golf tournament, a wine tasting, a gala and auction, grandparents day, and a special alumni luncheon. Anniversary events will conclude on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, with a Mass marking the 10th birthday of the school.
