Catholic Charities To Celebrate World Refugee Day

Published June 7, 2007

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Inc. will host a celebration of World Refugee Day on Wednesday, June 20, at 6 p.m. at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

The event is being held as a fundraiser for Catholic Charities’ Migration and Refugee Program and a celebration of the refugee population resettled and served by the program. The event will begin with a Mass at 6 p.m., followed by a celebration at 7 p.m. in the parish hall.

The event will feature food from around the globe and prizes (tickets for prizes sold for $1 per ticket). Although the event is free of charge, donations will be accepted at the door. Contributions will go to support Catholic Charities’ refugee resettlement program, which helps newly arriving refugees from all over the world to “start over” in the United States, free from persecution and fear.

The Shrine is located at 48 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, SW, Atlanta.

Members of businesses that are interested in sponsoring the event should contact the volunteer event chairperson Beth McCracken at (678) 520-6183.

Migration and Refugee Services accepts donations at all times, both monetary and in-kind. Call Frances McBrayer at (404) 885-7257 or Margaret Prickett at (404) 885-7271 to find out more about how to donate to the program.
