Our Lady of Mercy High School wrestlers Patrick Silloway, Thomas Raville and Clint Ford qualified during the Class A, Area 1 West, regional tournament in Turner County, Feb. 2 and 3. Raville, a junior and returning state placer, qualified for third place in the 125-pound weight class as he went 3-1 in the tournament, including a first period pin over Whitefield Academy. Silloway, a junior who wrestles at the heavyweight level, and Ford, a sophomore and returning state placer who competes at the 112-pound weight class, also qualified. Both wrestlers had two pins each on their way to securing a state qualifying fourth-place finish.
“Qualifying 50 percent of our wrestlers against 13 other schools in our region is a big improvement for our team,” said Our Lady of Mercy wrestling coach Francis Giknis. Mercy wrestlers will vie in the state tournament at the Gwinnett Civic Center, Duluth, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
