Holy Spirit Church will sponsor a talk by George W. Braswell, Ph.D., on “The Four Faces of Islam” on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The program will explore various beliefs within Islam and discuss the different types of Muslims. This is a program designed to help people to grasp the complexities of today’s conflict. Braswell will cover such topics as the history and exponential growth of Islam, the beliefs and practices of Muslims, factionalism and disunity in faith and practice, jihad, Islamic views and relations with Jews, Christians and “the others,” and the response of Christianity to Islam and Muslims.

Braswell holds doctoral degrees in theology and cultural anthropology. He lived with his family in the Iranian capital of Tehran from 1968-74 where he served as professor of English and comparative religions on the faculty of Islamic theology at the University of Tehran. He’s also an author of many books and articles on Islam, including “Islam and America: Answers to the 31 Most-asked Questions.” An ordained minister, he has served as director of the doctor of ministry program at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., and is currently a senior professor of world religions at Campbell University Divinity School in North Carolina.
