Christ Child Society of Atlanta presents Red Wagon event

ATLANTA—The Christ Child Society of Atlanta will present “I Don’t Have a Thing to Wear!” as its spring luncheon and fundraiser Saturday, April 30. The event will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel Buckhead.
Jackie Walker, “Doctor of Closetology,” is making a house call to Atlanta. Walker, the bestselling author of the book, “I Don’t Have a Thing to Wear,” will help guests identify their internal fashion persona and how that relates to inner confidence and outward success.
Originally founded in 1887 in Washington D.C., Christ Child Society is a national organization created in order to help needy children. Now in its 12th year, the local chapter partners with hospitals, clinics, schools, and other organizations providing support for children in need.
Outreach efforts include a layette program providing impoverished infants with essentials such as blankets, diapers, and clothing; a volunteer program at Grady Hospital to hold, nurture, and feed at-risk newborns; tutorial support at St. Peter Claver Regional School in Decatur; lunchroom duties at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School; and book collections to promote literacy.
The signature program in Atlanta is Elizabeth’s Garden, an organic sensory garden, designed with handicap-accessible beds and pathways created to be an outdoor classroom, located at the Elaine Clark Center for Exceptional Children. There is also a garden at St. Peter Claver School.
This fundraiser is called the Red Wagon Event, in honor of founder Mary Virginia Merrick’s gift of a red wagon to a needy child at Christmas, which was the start of the Christ Child Society.
Christ Child Society of Atlanta relies on this fundraising event to support and expand its baby layette, garden, and literacy programs for impoverished children.
