School officials at Holy Spirit Preparatory School recently announced the appointment of Archbishop-emeritus John F. Donoghue as the first rector of the school.

The rector is symbolically entrusted with the preservation of the school’s growing body of traditions, including the house system, honor system, matriculation and graduation.

Established in 1996, Holy Spirit Preparatory School strives to promote a classical college preparatory program of academic excellence and authentic Catholic faith formation for students in preschool through high school.

Gareth Genner, president of Holy Spirit Prep, said that the decision to make Archbishop Donoghue the rector was an easy one as he has shown ongoing support for the private school.

“Crisis magazine recently ranked a commitment to faithful Catholic education as third amongst the critical attributes of a Catholic bishop,” Genner said. “Archbishop Donoghue has supported and guided our school since its inception, and his appointment as rector honors both his commitment to Catholic education in general and his particular importance to our institution.”
