All Saints To Pray For Conversion Of Terrorists

Published April 26, 2007

All Saints Church will host a prayer service for the conversion of terrorists on Monday, April 30, at 7 p.m. and welcomes people to come to devote themselves to praying for an end to this form of violence through God’s grace and conversion of hearts.

The pastor, Msgr. R. Donald Kiernan, said the impetus to pray this way was inspired by recalling the many years the church prayed after each Mass for the conversion of Russia from communism, prayers requested by Pope Pius XI and inspired by Mary’s apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.

Leaders of the parish men’s club, women’s guild, Knights of Columbus and others will assist at the prayer service, which is expected to last about 45 minutes.

“This is really just a prayer service seeing if God would give them a change of heart because we cannot continue on this way forever,” Msgr. Kiernan said. “I didn’t want to get into the politics of it. These are simply prayers on our behalf asking Almighty God and the Blessed Mother to intercede to give us a new perspective and new goals that don’t include harm to others.”
