Sacred Heart Church will host a Mass to honor the contributions of black Catholics in the history of the Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

This is the second annual “Celebrating Contributions to the Catholic Church in the United States by Black Americans” event sponsored by Sacred Heart Church.

Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass, which will feature the choir and the Amazing Grace liturgical dancers from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Atlanta. The archbishop will also speak following the Mass.

Father George Clements, who spoke at last year’s event, will be the honored guest at the event. A native of Chicago, Father Clements gained national recognition for advocating the adoption of minority children and for punctuating his advocacy by adopting four sons. He has also advocated for every church in the country to help one person being released from prison with a network of support and friendship.

A reception in the parish hall will follow the Mass and the archbishop’s talk.
