St. Pius X alum on 2016 U.S. Olympic swim team

ATLANTA—St. Pius X High School alumnus Gunnar Bentz, class of 2014, has been named to the U.S. Olympic Swim Team for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Bentz claimed a spot on the 4×200-meter freestyle relay team when he finished fifth in the 200-meter freestyle event during the recent Olympic team trials held June 26-July 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. Bentz swims for the University of Georgia.

Two other Golden Lions competed at the Olympic trials. Rising senior Jeffrey Durmer placed 39th in the 400-meter individual medley in his first experience competing for the Olympics. Basil Orr, class of 2014, placed 46th in the 200-meter breaststroke.
