Four Pinecrest Seniors Win Hispanic Heritage Scholarships

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation awarded four Pinecrest Academy seniors with college scholarships during a ceremony at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, March 12.

About 10,000 students apply for this competition each year. This year, 15 students from the state of Georgia were selected for this honor, and four of them are Pinecrest students. The independent Catholic school affiliated with the Legion of Christ is in Cumming.

Kevin Ruiz won Gold in the Education Category, presented by Target, a $3,000 award.

Maried Perez won Bronze in the Education Category, presented by Target, a $1,000 award.

Lucia Nuñez won Gold in the Engineering and Mathematics category, presented by ExxonMobil, a $3,000 award.

Alexandra Moreno won Bronze in the Engineering and Mathematics category, presented by ExxonMobil, a $1,000 award.

All four are students of Ana Garcia, department chairperson for foreign languages and high school Spanish teacher.

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is a national leadership nonprofit organization, which identifies and prepares Latino leaders.
