Birthday Girls Collect Library Items, Not Birthday Gifts

Published October 25, 2012

Second-grade students at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Atlanta, Annalise O’Connell, Bailey Apgar and Sofia Arboleda share the same birthday so they decided to share the same party as well.

Instead of gifts, they asked friends to bring an item to benefit the school library. With three laundry baskets full of books and other materials, the girls presented the gifts to librarian Sandy Wilson.

The girls were inspired by a story they were told about a young girl, Maggie Lee Henson, whose family honors her life each October, her birthday month, by doing random acts of kindness.
