Retired St. Thomas More Principal, Gail Msezane, Dies

Gail Patrick Msezane, retired principal of St. Thomas More School, Decatur, died May 1 at home in the presence of her family. She was 66.

Mrs. Msezane was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and pursued a career as an educator, first as a teacher and progressing to her role as principal of St. Thomas More School in Decatur.

Prior to becoming principal in 1998, Mrs. Msezane taught kindergarteners and second-graders for 13 years and was voted teacher of the year by her peers. She retired in spring 2007.

She and her husband, Alfred, lived in South Africa, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Louisiana, before settling in Atlanta. She loved her travels with her husband and aunt throughout the world, including to the Ukraine.

She will be remembered for her generosity, strength and zest for life, and for being a wonderful wife, mother, friend, sister and teacher.

A memorial Mass was held at St. Thomas More Church on Friday, May 6.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, her two children, Temba and Lambda (Josh), her two grandchildren, Jake and Allie, and her sister, Ruth.
