Mass Of Elevation For Sacred Heart Basilica Set For Aug. 21

A Mass marking the elevation of the Sacred Heart Church as a minor basilica will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory will be the principal celebrant at the Mass, which will be concelebrated by priests of the archdiocese. All are invited to attend.
A concert featuring the liturgical choir will begin at 9:05 a.m. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m.
Sacred Heart Church was bestowed the honor of designation as a minor basilica on Feb. 22 by the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
The downtown Atlanta parish is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year in conjunction with the celebration of its designation as a minor basilica, the 67th in the United States. This designation is in recognition of the history of the church, as well as the architecture, artistic importance, and pastoral activities.
