Southern Catholic Student Receives National Recognition

Published September 18, 2008

Anne Marie Sutherland, a senior majoring in history and philosophy at Southern Catholic College, was recently selected as a Marion G. Wells Honors Fellow by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute of Wilmington, Del.

ISI is a national educational organization whose prestigious honors program selects each year 50 of the nation’s most talented undergraduates to participate in a yearlong program of educational enrichment.

As one of the 2008 Fellows, Sutherland, of Carsonville, Mich., took part in a weeklong ISI summer conference in Quebec City, Canada. Participants had the opportunity to engage in debate and discussion of the topic “Civilization and Civilizations: The West in Context,” led by faculty members from colleges and universities across the nation.

As part of the honors program, this year Sutherland will also take part in small seminars and online discussions led by ISI faculty mentors and she will receive one-on-one professional assistance regarding future internship opportunities and graduate and professional programs.
