St. Anthony’s To Host Mission

Published December 6, 2007

St. Anthony Church will hold an Advent mission on Sunday through Wednesday, Dec. 9-12, led by Father Daniel McCaffrey. The talks will be presented at 3 p.m. and repeated at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Father Daniel McCaffrey was ordained in 1958, and a year later he departed for Pakistan where he served for over eight years as a missionary. He holds a doctorate in sacred theology from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. In 1968, during the Vietnam War, he joined the United States Army Chaplain Corps. During more than 20 years of active duty, Father McCaffrey served in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Honduras, as well as numerous army installations throughout the United States. In his ministry he has worked in the Apostolate of Marriage Enrichment establishing successful natural family planning programs on the diocesan and parish levels. Father McCaffrey is a priest of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

On Sunday evening, his talk will focus on what the Catholic Church believes—the creed. Monday evening’s talk is on what the Catholic Church celebrates, in the form of the sacraments. What the Catholic Church lives—the commandments and family life—will be the focus of Tuesday’s presentation, and the mission ends with a discussion of spiritual life—what the church prays. The mission will close with benediction on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Reconciliation will be available for 30 minutes before and after each presentation. Childcare is available. For those who need help with transportation, call (706) 632-2642.

St. Anthony’s is located at 967 East Main Street in Blue Ridge.
