Students Meditate On Living Stations

Published April 12, 2007

St. Peter Claver Regional School held a moving reenactment of the Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 30, as eighth-grade students organized and acted the story for the whole school community.

Using the music “By Your Side,” written by Steve Givens for Creative Communications for the parish in 1999, the readers and actors helped those assembled walk beside Jesus to Calvary while contemplating their own lives and faith. In this work each station contains three elements: a short verse, a brief meditation and a prayer that address an issue pertinent to the lives of young people today as they consider the Passion of Jesus.

At the 12th Station, “Jesus Dies on the Cross,” the meditation and silence were followed by the haunting sounds of the school’s new hand chimes choir, playing “Were You There?”
