Marist Swimmer Soars At USA Championships

Published April 5, 2007

Marist School junior Kathleen Hersey won the 200-meter butterfly final with a time of 2:09.92 at the 2007 USA Swimming Spring Championships in East Meadow, N.Y., March 28. Hersey, who led the entire race, won by 2.48 seconds and was six seconds under the Olympic Trials cut.

“Although some of the best U.S. swimmers were at the World Swimming Championships taking place concurrently in Melbourne, Australia, her time would have placed her eighth in the world and made her the second fastest woman in the event at that meet,” said head swim and dive coach Terry Blish. “I am very excited for her.”
