Our Lady of the Assumption Church will join with fellow churches of the Brookhaven Christian Ministries to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord with a traditional sunrise service on Easter Sunday, April 16. The celebration will take place at 7 a.m. on the lawn of the Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church located behind Oglethorpe University at 3016 Lanier Drive. This annual service will include song, Scripture and prayer.

Rev. Marthame Sanders, pastor of Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church, will be the featured speaker at this interdenominational service.

Rev. Sanders is a native Atlantan and a graduate of the Galloway School, Yale University and the University of Chicago. Prior to returning to Atlanta, he worked for the Middle East office of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), including three years of service in the Palestinian Christian village of Zababdeh where he produced a documentary film, “Salt of the Earth.” He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their first child at the end of April.

Other member churches of the Brookhaven Christian Ministries include Brookhaven Christian Church, Brookhaven United Methodist Church, Cross & Crown Lutheran Church, St. James United Methodist Church and St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church.

A voluntary offering will benefit the Interfaith Outreach Home (IOH), a transitional home for two-parent homeless families with children. Since opening its doors in 1992, IOH has provided housing and support for over 400 homeless persons in their quest to regain their independence.

Immediately following the sunrise service, guests are invited to attend a pancake breakfast at Brookhaven Christian Church, which is adjacent to Oglethorpe University at 4500 Peachtree Road. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children and $15 per family. Call (404) 237-3030 to make advance reservations for the breakfast.

The Brookhaven Christian Ministries is a group of churches from the Brookhaven community that meets monthly to address the needs of local residents. All churches in the Brookhaven area are invited to join.
