Annual Hunger Walk To Be Held March 12

Published February 2, 2006

The 2006 Hunger Walk/Run will be held Sunday, March 12, at Turner Field and will benefit several Atlanta hunger relief organizations, including the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Registration begins at noon, and the 10K run begins at 1 p.m. The 5K Walk/Fun Run will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Participants can also enjoy old-fashioned carnival games, a space walk, food, drinks and more.

The annual event raises much needed funds and awareness for six local coalition groups representing hundreds of congregations and hunger relief groups. In addition to SVdP, groups benefiting from the Hunger Walk include the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Episcopal Charities Foundation, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Lutheran Services of Georgia and Presbyterian Answer to Hunger.

These programs operate and/or support nutrition programs such as child-care facilities, senior centers, shelters, community kitchens and other programs for people in need.

All 5K and 10K runners must pay a $25 entry fee, which includes an official Hunger Walk/Run T-shirt. All 10K runners will also receive a certified 10K time. Walkers have no set registration fee, but there is a suggested minimum donation fee of $25.
