St. Pius X Church will host a healing mission, “Be Not Afraid: Facing and Healing our Fears,” led by Father Matthew Linn, SJ, on Jan. 6-7, 2006.

The mission is sponsored by The Order of St. Luke chapter at St. Pius. The International Order of St. Luke the Physician is a body of Christians who believe that the healing of the body, mind and spirit is a vital part of the total ministry of Jesus Christ. As a worldwide interdenominational organization, members of the order practice this ministry with teaching and prayer.

The mission will begin on Friday, Jan. 6, with registration at 6:30 p.m., followed by the evening teaching at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the mission will continue at 8:30 a.m. with registration and coffee, followed by the 9 a.m. morning session. After lunch at noon, the afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. and will continue until the conclusion at 4 p.m.

During the mission through talks and prayer exercises, Father Linn will help participants to name their fears, heal their roots in past hurts, receive more deeply the life in each present moment and be freed to peacefully risk life rather than anxiously peering at the future. The goal is not just freedom from fear but finding the serenity and perfect love that casts out fear and empowers people to fully live.

Father Linn, as a team with Dennis and Sheila Linn, has focused on integrating physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Since 1970 he has taught courses and given retreats on healing in over 50 countries from Alaska to Australia.

Ordained in 1973, he currently lives with Jesuit novices in St. Paul, Minn., where he trains spiritual directors. He is a member of the Association of Christian Therapists and serves on the board of the Journal of Christian Healing.

Together with his brother, Dennis, Father Linn has written 18 books, which have been translated into 20 languages, including “Healing of Memories,” “Healing the 8 Stages of Life,” “Simple Ways to Pray for Healing” and “Healing the Purpose of Your Life.”

The cost of the mission is $20, which includes refreshments on both days and lunch on Saturday.
