Two months ago, the Marist priests of Our Lady of the Assumption in Brookhaven left the parish after 60 years of service there. A celebration on May 18 honored the order that fostered the spiritual needs of parishioners for the last six decades.

Between 1973 and 1987, The Georgia Bulletin ran editorial articles and cartoons by frequent contributor Dave McGill. Born in Slidell, Louisiana, McGill came to Atlanta in 1966 to teach engineering at Georgia Tech and was a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Paris Olympics will soon conclude with the closing ceremony on Aug. 11. Like many of the games before, this year’s event was characterized by dramatic moments, victories and defeats, and some controversy. In that respect, the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta were not that different.

Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States, paid a visit to Emory University in Atlanta in February. Overall, there have been 10 men to serve in this role since the formation of the Diocese of Atlanta in 1956, but not all have technically been nuncios.
