ATLANTA—Marlene Lee-Seaton, a leader in the Charismatic Renewal in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, will be the guest speaker at the Magnificat gathering for women to be held on Saturday, May 20. Lee-Seaton is a member of Corpus Christi Church in Stone Mountain. 

The Magnificat meal will be held at Holy Cross Church in Atlanta from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All women are welcome to attend. The Atlanta chapter of Magnificat hosts the gathering, which includes breakfast, a time of praise and worship with music and the speaker’s testimony.

The international Catholic women’s ministry is inspired by the joyful meeting of Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, related in the Visitation account in the Gospel of St. Luke. 

Lee-Seaton is originally from Jamaica and attended Catholic schools. Even as a child she began searching for Jesus, as the nuns told her he lived in the tabernacle. She always had a desire to live a consecrated life, but her parents intervened, and Lee-Seaton went to a business college in Jamaica instead.   

She migrated to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 17. There she attended Brooklyn College and got married when she was 18. It was in Brooklyn that she began her family of four children and became a CCD teacher and coordinator at St. Matthew’s Church. When she was introduced to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, she developed a great love for the Holy Spirit. 

After relocating to Atlanta, Lee-Seaton became very active at Corpus Christi Church, leading the prayer group, welcoming new parishioners through the New Visitors Program, organizing prayer breakfasts and other activities. In 2014, she was voted Woman of the Year for her outstanding service to the parish. She is a member of the Pastoral Council, manages the gift shop and facilitates a Bible study group.  

Lee-Seaton worked in the hospitality industry for 22 years and had her own travel agency. She is currently the event coordinator and publicity chairperson for the Atlanta Catholic Charismatic Renewal.  

Lee-Seaton is passionate for Jesus and continually seeks the guidance of the Holy Spirit as she inspires others through leading and speaking at retreats, conferences and Life in the Spirit seminars. She is committed to the “New Evangelization” proclaimed by St. John Paul II, as well as to spreading the Charismatic Renewal within the archdiocese and beyond. 

The Magnificat ministry began in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and has spread throughout the world. Chapters are under the guidance of the local bishop. The Atlanta Joyful Visitation chapter has been active since 1992. The purpose is to help women open more to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another by their love, service and sharing the good news of salvation. 

Advance reservations are required and can be made online or through the mail. The cost is $25 per person. No tickets are sent. Check-in is at the door for those with reservations only.

The doors open early. Guests are encouraged to arrive by 9 a.m. Holy Cross is located at 3773 Chamblee Tucker Road, Atlanta, less than a mile from the Chamblee Tucker Road exit on Interstate 285. 

Priests and religious are invited to attend free of charge, but reservations are still requested to plan for the meal. Since the morning is designed to speak to the hearts of women free of distractions, it is respectfully requested that young children not attend.
