ATLANTA—St. Vincent de Paul Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Hooker to the charity’s board of directors for a three-year term which began on Oct. 1.
Doug Hooker retired after a transformative 11 years leading the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) as its executive director. As the official planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta Regional and 73 cities located within it, the ARC thrived under his leadership.
“The mission of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia resonates with me on a deeply personal level,” Hooker said. “At the Atlanta Regional Commission, I was responsible for a wide range of services for the region including transportation planning, housing, aging services, and workforce development—in the same communities where so many of the individuals we serve at St. Vincent de Paul. Our programs in housing, health and hunger make it possible for individuals and families to have paths to self-sufficiency.”
“As we implement our strategic plan, it is especially important that our board membership know the communities and families we serve,” said Pat McNulty, chief executive officer of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia. “The vast majority of our families are low-income and are from medically underserved communities in Georgia. More than a third speak only Spanish. Doug’s family and career ties to the vast Atlanta region and dedication to advancing the success of underserved individuals adds invaluable leadership experience and perspective to our board at a critical point in our history.”
