Father Jerome McKenna, CP, pastor of St. Paul of the Cross, dies
Father Jerome Francis McKenna, a Passionist priest, died on Sunday, April 7. He was 93 years old. Father McKenna became pastor of Atlanta’s St. Paul of the Cross Church in 2009, serving until his death.

St. Philip Benizi pastor appointed Charlotte’s fifth bishop
Pope Francis has appointed Father Michael T. Martin, OFM Conv., as bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte. The announcement was made the morning of April 9. Father Martin is pastor of St. Philip Benizi Church in Jonesboro in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Death penalty opponents gather for prayer vigils
Vigils were held across Georgia the evening of the execution of Willie James Pye to pray for those facing the death penalty and for victims and their families. Pye was executed March 20 after an appeal for clemency was denied.
