Our Lady of Mercy High School wrestlers began the season in a dominating fashion as they racked up pins over Pike County and Upson Lee High Schools on Dec. 2. Three-time state placer and team captain Clint Ford (119 lbs.), senior Matthew Fitzgerald (135 lbs.) and junior Joshua Vuong (112 lbs.) pinned both the Upson Lee and Pike County wrestlers. Also pinning his Pike County opponent with 37 seconds left in the first period was senior heavyweight Richard McPhee (189 lbs.). Sophomores Brenner Sanders (145 lbs.) and Jean-Luc McNeely (152 lbs.) were also victorious in their matches.

“I’m excited about our chances this season,” said Our Lady of Mercy coach Francis Giknis. “We have a few holes in our lineup, but I know we can count on our seniors to step up and contribute wherever they wrestle.” Our Lady of Mercy is participating in a tournament at Riverwood High School, Sandy Springs, Dec. 19-20.
